Investigating ADHD and ASD features in dementia patients referred to a memory clinic in Iran

Background Dementia is a clinical syndrome characterized by progressive cognitive decline interfering with the function of activity daily living in patients (1). Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) are two prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders affecting different brain functions manifesting mostly impaired communication behavior (3). These initiate childhood but usually persist into adulthood (3, 4). might overlap dementia symptoms, as they share common genetic environmental backgrounds (5-7). ASD ADHD may complicate timely diagnosis each leading to more pronounced dysfunction. Hence, this study aimed evaluate symptoms referred memory clinic Iran. Method We recruited 65 study. Firstly, neurologist diagnosed dementia’s subtypes precise examination, assessment applying Montreal Assessment (MoCA). The severity was determined using Functional Staging Tool (FAST). Consequently, we instructed participants fill out autism quotient (AQ) Conners' Adult Rating Scales (CAARS) questionnaires for investigating their symptoms. Result Considering cut-off points AQ CAARS questionnaires, 18.5% were ASD, 35.4% ADHD. Besides, found significant positive relationship between all subscales FAST score (P < 0.05). In other words, severe likely have increased Conclusion results indicated that be manifestations dementia. This finding line previous research findings regarding high co-occurrence (8). comorbidity can further prohibit worsen prognosis. Given there scarce evidence on association Iran, pave way future elaborate precisely etiological association.
